Privacy Policy

Overview

Universal Video Transcriber ("the App") is developed by mpcode. This policy explains how the App handles your information.

Data Collection

The App does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. All video transcription is performed entirely on your device using the Whisper speech recognition model. No audio, video, or transcript data ever leaves your device.

Analytics & Tracking

The App does not use any analytics, tracking, or third-party services. There are no cookies, no advertising identifiers, and no usage telemetry of any kind.

Network Access

The App makes a single outgoing network request on first launch to download the Whisper Medium speech recognition model (~1.5 GB) from HuggingFace. This is a one-time download required for the App to function. No personal data, usage information, or device identifiers are sent during this download. After the model is downloaded, the App operates fully offline.

Permissions

The App requests the following macOS permissions, which are used solely for core functionality:

• User-Selected File Access — required to open video files you choose and to save exported transcripts (plain text and SRT subtitle files) to locations you select.
• Movies Folder Access — provides convenient access to your Movies folder for selecting video files.

Local Storage

The App stores the following data locally on your device:

• Whisper Model — the speech recognition model file, stored in ~/Library/Application Support/UniversalVideoTranscriber/WhisperModels/.
• Saved Transcriptions — any transcriptions you choose to save, stored in ~/Library/Application Support/UniversalVideoTranscriber/SavedTranscriptions/.
• Preferences — your settings (language preference, transcription parameters) stored locally using UserDefaults.

This data remains on your device and is never shared or transmitted.

Third-Party Services

The App does not integrate with any third-party services, APIs, or SDKs. The Whisper speech recognition model runs entirely on-device. No data is sent to OpenAI, Apple, or any other third party.

Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect information from children. Since no data is collected from any user, no special provisions are required.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy is updated, the changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
